Multiple Intelligences

We all learn the same - differently!
Understanding how we learn best and how our students learn best provides a wonderful setting for learning to happen. Generally - we teach like we learn. By doing this, are we missing connecting with some of our students?

Howard Gardner identifies 8 (and growing) intelligences. Researchers agree that we all possess all 8 intelligences - just some are more developed than others. We must work to develop our weaknesses.

Using the Mutiple Intelligences (MI) theory is a great foundation to develop learning centers, menu of options or choices boards for almost any topic.

In class we looked at the Iditarod as a topic to help incorporate the MI theory for learning centers. Zuma's Paw Prints provides ongoing information about the race at various reading levels. (Sanka writes for the higher readers, Gypsy reaches the middle readers, and Libby helps out the struggling reader)

Please share the ideas you had for utilizing the MI theory in your classroom.

Ideas of Logical/Mathematical Centers for the Iditarod:
Musher Menu
1) Students can create a recipe for dog food
2) Students design/create an advertisement for the dog food
3) Students create Maze (maybe of a course the dog's could follow) and the share with other students to solve the maze
4) Chart daily progress of teams in the Iditarod
5) Come up with your own Musher language (commands to the dog from Musher)
6) Create a model of the sled (team set up)
7) HIdden picture game (find the Musher)
8) Create a historical timeline of the Iditarod

Enjoy!!!!

We thought that a timeline of the Iditarod would be appropriate:

Create a timeline of the event to include daily updates of the location of the mushers, weather tracking and important events of the race.

The timeline information would be researched on the internet to keep up with the racers and added each day to the timeline... the student could also add photos and a personal journal of each day to include the intrapersonal intelligence.
